  • We recommend removing the tick by a rotating motion, not pulling. Here's why:

The rostrum of a tick, called "the head", is bristled with small spikes that allow the tick to remain fixed. When pulling the tick, these spikes anchor and lock the head into the skin. Pulling can therefore cause the head to break, which then remains partially or entirely in the skin; this can cause painful inflammation or infection.

When turning, the tips of the rostrum are brought back along the axis of rotation, and the tick is removed easily, without pulling effort, and thus limiting the risk of breaking the head.

Warning: some instrument manufacturers recommend pulling or shaking the tick. These methods can cause the head to break, which then remains in the skin.
